About the event
We are grateful to have a placement student from Queen's University who is doing her alternative practicum placement here at CCP. She has a special interest in Social Justice, Mental Health and our Youth and for her final placement she will be hosting an afternoon event for youth with a focus on building connections and fostering positive relationsips.
As parents we have seen the impact of the pandemic on our youth. Lack of connection, loss of routine, increased screen time, lack of extra curriculars and exposure to the heaviness of the world have impacted all of them (to varying degrees) After nearly two years of pivoting with the pandemic, we are excited to offer a safe space for young people to recognize the strong connections that exist in their life and how these connections can support a healthy foundation.
"Meeting Me" is about supporting our youth in building positive connections with our relationships, bodies, food, minds, and the world around us.
Through artistic expression, conversation, education, and movement, we will guide the group through a structured afternoon of activities.
The day will be divided into 4 main blocks:
-Movement (yoga and mindfulness)
-Art expression (mind mapping vision boards and yarn connection activity)
-Self care (discussion/activity focussing on positive connections with food and our bodies)
-Relationships with family and friends (guided interactive activity focussing on healthy friendships and connecting with family)
Youth are welcome to participate in the workshop activities to whatever level feels comfortable and useful to them. Participants will be encouraged to explore connections that currently exist and that they can build in own lives.
This is not a treatment or mental health support group. This workshop is designed for all youth who are looking to engage in materials that help to foster a sense community, connection and positive relationships.
This group is appropriate for anyone between the ages of 8-11 who is open to learning and engaging in an afternoon of creativity, connection and fun!
Co-led by CCP therapists.
