About the event

Clinical supervision, time to reflect, a chance to build relationships and re-set.

"Self-care is within us. We are our therapeutic tools. And so, observed Lasky (2005), our tools for self-care never get dull, chipped or broken. Since psychotherapy is a very demanding calling, fraught with occupational hazards, we must start our self-care by establishing realistic expectations, realizing that at times we may feel overwhelmed, tired, and even drained. We need to be aware, and protect against, what pushes our “button”. It is important to recognize the stresses, but as essential is to realize that they are shared by most, if not all, therapists."

The  best thing we can do as clinicians is maintain support, supervision and therapy to protect our baseline and have long and successful careers. This job is incredibly important and many therapists have been going without support due to an influx of people working privately, higher demand for services and increased stress collectively.

"The exhausting, demanding, and draining nature of psychotherapy makes clinicians an especially vulnerable crowd when it comes to the susceptibility of stress. For instance, sampling 182 clinicians, Luther et al. (2017) demonstrated that 52% of participants report working overtime hours in any given week, which resulted in feelings of alienation, symptoms of burnout, and reduced work satisfaction. Additionally, mental health work is stressful and has often been described as causing burnout, which involves chronic work-related stress, which is associated with emotional exhaustion and loneliness"  (Luther et al., 2017; Rupert & Morgan, 2005; Sander & Bauman, 2020)."

This group is for you if:

-You have benefitted from group support in the past.

-You're looking to enhance your support circle.

-You're looking to enhance your skills and learn from others.

-You would like a place to go for support to manage stress.

-You're looking to build community.

-You're attempting to avoid burn out.

We believe with the right amount of support and connection we can avoid levels of burn out and help clinicians to feel rewarded,  empowered and continue doing this valuable work. This group is appropriate for clinicians (social workers, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, nutritionists etc) who would like an accessible way of maintaining supervision in a group setting.

Due to Carly's specialization and experience working with Eating Disorders, there may naturally be more in attendance who are looking for more support with this population. That being said, we will explore the needs of the group and develope appropriate content based on the attendees. After 5 years of supervising other therapists Carly has recently finished some extended education on supervision and is quite passionate about creating a space for therapists (and the like) to stay at their best doing this work.

Every 8 weeks we will meet on a Thursday morning with Coffee and snacks in our comfortable environment with an agenda as follows:

-Check in introductions

-Skill introduction (a topic or learning that reflects the needs of the group)

-Case consultation

-Check out

This group will focus heavily on ensuring the health and wellness of the clinician while exploring client/patient needs as we go.

This is group limited to 12 people for the first 6 months. The hope is to help with consistency and continuity by having the same people attend. We understand there are times when you may have to miss a group and therfore we have left the group open. We ask that payment and confirmation for the group is provided by the Monday of the week the group is running.  If there are not enough people to run the group payment wil be refunded.

Although we recommend signing up for all 6 sessions, we recognize this is not always possible. You can sign up for each individual meeting or all of them:) We look forward to seeing you there.

We have added the abilty to attend online for our March meeting and beyond. If this is your preferred method of attendance please let us know.  We will be bringing in the larger desktop computer for you to view the in-person members.
