Have you ever met someone, heard the way they explain something and want the whole world to learn from them? 

That's how it feels when you listen to Michelle speak and teach her clients about intuitive eating and anti-diet nutrition. It is refreshing, necessary and has been life changing for our clients so far. 

Michelle joined us in November of 2021 and has been working with us virtually ever since. She offers a very unique and specialized approach to nutrition and your relationship with food through various modalities. This includes groups, podcasts, workshops and individual appointments.

About Michelle 

Michelle (she/her) is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and Anti-Diet Nutritionist (CNP) who is passionate about rewriting the script around food and wellness. She works from an anti-diet, Health at Every Size (HAES) and weight-neutral lens.

With a background in Nutrition that stemmed from a desire to learn more about her own diagnosis of IBD, Michelle found that the way we talked about food is often inaccessible, rooted in anti-fat bias, and can encourage long-term disordered eating patterns. Because of this, Michelle works to change the fear-based narrative through approaching food from a more inclusive and empowered approach by leading with compassion to meet you where you are at.

After graduating from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition with highest honours, Michelle studied directly with Evelyn Tribole to become certified in Intuitive Eating Counselling which is the main focus of her practice. She specializes in helping folks with disordered eating, chronic dieting, body image concerns, making peace with food, emotional eating and learning to become more in tune with their hunger and fullness signals.

Working with Michelle will mean diving into the principles of Intuitive Eating as they relate to your life, so you can challenge the ingrained beliefs around food and your body in a supportive and manageable way. And the truth is: once you start making peace with food, you’ll see the immense ripple effects it has throughout the rest of your life, because it’s never *just* about food. Michelle is ready to hold space for you around the things that come up in the process.

Description of Services:

The goal of working 1:1 with Michelle is to find a flow with food that feels simple, exciting, joyful, and fluid enough to change as you need it to, by using the basics of gentle nutrition so you can feel great without any extreme dieting or restriction required.

Michelle’s approach to nutrition is simple but not cookie-cutter - you get to choose how you want to feel around food and Michelle will offer tools and strategies to support you in the process.

You can expect to work through these tools like experiments: trying on new ways of eating or engaging with food and your body for a few days to figure out what feels best in an approachable way. We will continue to collaborate to build on the skills you gain along the way for a long term shift in how you feel around food and your body.

An example schedule of what working together could look like:

Alignment Appointment: this is a free 15min video or phone call to meet and talk about your goals. Michelle will give you a verbal roadmap of what to expect and you can ensure that her approach aligns with your goals before making the commitment of working together.

Initial Consultation: During this appointment you’ll talk through your food story, sharing how food has played a role for you in the past and present. This is an opportunity to be heard while connecting the dots of where certain beliefs and behaviours have come from. It’s a powerful thing! You’ll also complete an Intuitive Eating Assessment to create a starting point for moving forward. This appointment is all about solidifying a foundation to build from.

 

Follow Up Consultations: Booked based on your schedule and needs, in these sessions you’ll continue to build upon the tools, and learn strategies to work on the different aspects of your relationship to food that you’d like to shift. These are also great opportunities to talk through more specific situations that arise, to develop the skills to work through them in the future.

Appointments are offered virtually and in person depending on your preference.

Michelle specializes in working with those experiencing the following:

  • Disordered eating patterns (restriction, food fear, yo-yo dieting) Binge eating

  • Digestive issues (stomach upset/distention, IBS symptoms) A disconnection from hunger and fullness signals
